Nice is, in many ways, the center of the French Riviera. It is next door to Cannes and Monte Carlo, and the closest city to such well known names as Eze, St. Paul de Vence, Villefranche-Sur-Mer, and Gourdon. The old port is picturesque, and there are sidewalk cafes here, if you wish to simply relax over a leisurely lunch. The most famous hotel in Nice is the domed Negresco, on the Promenade des Anglais. The Negresco is used by Silversea as its pre-cruise hotel, with the Hermitage in Monte Carlo being the choice for an upgraded hotel. (Luxury Cruise' advice is to take the Hermitage. The Hermitage is the better hotel, and is across the street from the famous casino and has rooms overlooking the fabulous harbor.) |
